ALPS Mountaineering Lynx 4-Person Tent

The Key Features

Strong construction

It’s one of the things that truly count when it comes to tents, it should be capable of offering the best comfort possible, while at the same time withstanding the unrelenting rigors of the outdoors.

That comes in as one of the things ALPS Mountaineering Lynx 4-person tent does better than most other options in its tier, and it comes down to several exciting features.

These include a water-resistant polyester fly, which is also UV resistant. This strong tent also features two sturdy main frame aluminum poles, which adds to its strength against the wind and makes it extra firm.

Ease of assembly

Setting up the ALPS Mountaineering Lynx 4-person tent is one of the things that most people find rather tedious while out there, and things can only get worse if you have a tent that takes a bit of muscle and time to pitch.

However, if you can find a tent that you can set up effortlessly, then you are lucky, and that’s why this tent is designed to take the frustration out of the way with virtually no assembly at all.

As a freestanding tent, the setup is always a breeze and usually takes only a few minutes. It’s the type of tent you need if you get to the campsite after dark as the ease of assembly will not cause you to stress about your shelter for the night.

Leak-free design

The last thing a camper wants to put up with is waking up to a soaked tent and all the camping gear, and if you are sleeping on the ground, you might not stay dry and warm long enough to find out about the mess in the morning.

If such a rude awakening is among your worst nightmares when camping, then you need a tent that can ensure you get the best protection from rainwater.

It all starts with the tough rainfly, which helps keep the torrent out while ensuring you can stay warm and dry. The 75D 185T poly taffeta floor is also remarkable, as it’s both very durable and has a 2000mm coating that ensures water doesn’t make its way into the tent.

Ample space

Space is another factor that you can’t afford to get wrong. Too small, and you might have to squeeze in there. Too large, however, and you will have a whole lot of space that you will never need.

As a 4-person tent, this one proves to be just the ideal size for a small/medium size family or a couple of friends and their gear and one of the better Small Tents For Camping.

Measuring 7 feet 6 inches by 8 feet 6 inches on the base and with a 52 inches center height, it ensures you can enjoy more than sufficient space for everyone without sacrificing your comfort.

In addition, you can have enough space for storing your camping gear. Besides the roomy tent, the fly offers two vestibules that can be handy as additional storage space for small, light items.

Easy to carry around

It goes without saying that portability is of high importance when it comes to tents. Having a great tent that is a pain to carry with you would be meaningless. On a similar measure, having an easy-to-carry tent that doesn’t offer ideal, comfy accommodation will be every bit as useless.

Lucky enough for you, this one does both best; it sports an ideal size for up to four people, but it’s insanely light, so you can carry it with ease.

Weighing only 8 lbs 10oz lbs total weight, it’s definitely lightweight enough, so portability shouldn’t be a challenge. Besides, when folded, it measures only 7 inches by 23.5 inches and comes with a carry bag where it fits with much ease.

Great for different types of weather

Whether you usually camp in extremely wet conditions or in hot areas, you need a tent that is best suited for your needs. But the best you can hope for is getting one that fits both bills.

That’s where this tent comes in handy, thanks to its versatile design, and that holds very true when it comes to this tent, as it features two doors that make access in and out of the tent very easy.

Besides being tough in wet conditions, it also features ideal ventilation, making it perfect for all conditions too. This is all thanks to the mesh walls as well as a 12-inch mesh that runs downwards on the doors.

Two large doors so you don’t have to squeeze through, and if you need a bit of privacy, then you are sure to find them to be very helpful.

What Are The Benefits You Can Expect From This Product?

The polyester fly on this tent is among the features that set the bar in terms of withstanding the elements, as it is both rain and UV resistant.

It also proves to be of good strength, as it stays very taut, so you hardly ever have to worry about the elements compromising your tent.

The zippers on the doors and vestibules are easy to use as they are super large so you can hold them with ease. What’s more, these zippers are super durable, usually out-lasting the tent itself.

Its size is one of the last things you want to get wrong in a tent. But not with this one, the roomy inside offers sufficient space for up to four people,

Very roomy which allows you to use it with a couple of friends or family members, a couple with one child will fit comfortably with sleeping pads and other gear.

And with enough height, it makes it easy to sit up inside as well as walk-in and out with ease.

Even more exciting is the additional space for storing your gear. The tent itself has more than sufficient room inside so you won’t have to worry about space for your stuff.

It also has a gear loft, two vestibules as well as stash pockets, all these offer extra space just in case you need it.

With the seams featuring an impressive factory-sealed design, you can count on them for perfect protection against the weather.

These add to the water-resistant performance of this tent, and go a long way to add to its durability too, cool, right?

Comes in two great color variations Clay/Rust and a very attractive Blue/Green

Here Is A Tip Or Two

  1. The stakes on this tent are not the best, so if you want stakes that could really take some beating, then consider replacing them with some more robust ones.
  2. Consider Purchasing a spray-on waterproofing product and completely spraying at least the rainfly, sometimes it is not necessary but it is a cheap and simple way to reduce the chances of rain entering your tent.
  3. As always, doing a test-run on your tent before hitting the road could help you know how to pitch it with ease, so try it out prior to your trip.
  4. And when setting it up at the campsite, always check for any pebbles, rocks or anything on the ground that might compromise its floor.

  • This tent is built for the outdoors, so it features tough materials on the outside, and it’s comfy on the inside.
  • It’s an ideal option for anyone camping with family or friends, as it is roomy enough.
  • You can’t afford to miss the extra storage space, which you can use for a wide range of gear.
  • At its size, weighing around 8lbs is pretty light, it’s not so often you find a tent this light and this large.
  • The two doorways offer easy in and out access, and you can also count on them when a little privacy is necessary.
  • Well ventilated with mesh panels.

  • The stakes on this tent are not so strong; you might have to replace them in the long haul.

Well, there you have your tent, with all the essential features, an ideal design, and lasting construction. This tent ranks among the top options for you if you want to treat your family to a weekend of camping on the beach, or if you are heading out as a group of college friends.

I would highly recommend this tent for a couple or a small family of three or four, but if you only want some pretty large space for just yourself and your dog, then this one is more than the bargain.

Now you can get out there, enjoy the amazing sights and get up close with nature. Don’t worry about the elements, this tent has got you covered. 92% of reviews on Amazon are 4 or 5 stars which are an amazingly high number of mostly positive reviews.

  1. Hello, Shane.

Nice review on this tent and I think t would make a great tent for camping in a campground environment especially if there are two or three people and (if you are like us in our early days before we graduated to an RV) a dog or two.

My wife and I used to tent in our early married days and having enough room was very important as we had an Airedale and a granddaughter as well as us in the tent and some of our gear (clothes but not food). I think this tent would be good but I think some of the gear might have to stay in a vehicle.

Another positive for me is that the fly goes almost all the way to the bottom of the tent. This indeed would ensure a dry interior if it rained.  Best to have the ground sheet just tucked under the edge of the tent base so that any water coming off the fly would go under it

I also noticed that the packaging in the video said that this was a “Backpacking” tent?  I don’t know if I would want to carry an 8+ pound tent on a trip into the backwoods and up mountains,  With all the other gear one would need to carry as well,  this tent would add significant weight to a pack that could weigh 35 – 40Lbs or more already.

It would be better if my buddies carried their own lightweight 1 -2 man tent.

This is just my opinion of course.  Gear can be distributed around the group if your doing an overnighter or weekend trip.

Thanks again and if I was looking for a nice campground tent, I would want one like this.

    • Hi Wayne, I’m with you in that I also like a bit of room to move, and the Alps Mountaineering Lynx 4 Person is a good choice. However, I feel It would be to tight for 4 adults and would be more suitable for a couple or small family. I also like a full fly for rain protection, and this is an excellent small tent for camping with a vehicle. For the right purpose, this one takes some beating.

      Thanks for your comment, Shane.

  2. This ALPS Mountaineering Lynx 4-Person Tent is a very sweet solution to getting cover while camping, trekking, or just spending a day away from the home in the wilderness. I like how easy it is to put together, and it has been designed for providing space, comfort, yet adding air circulation while inside.

I was amazed at the queen size mattress that fit with space to spare inside, and it definitely will work for 4 people or less for almost any trip. The construction has also been done with a camper in mind, as in the parts that seem always to fail on these tents have materials that will last.

The tent pegs are one area, in general, I see with all tents where manufacturers seem to scrimp on, and I have had to replace all of them over the years with my own after purchase tent pegs. The colors available are also somewhat neutral and pleasing to the eye. They will mesh well with any outdoor shrubbery.

The video was very helpful to demonstrate just how easy it is to put together, and the guy had that up in no time at all. Definitely, this ALPS Mountaineering Lynx 4-Person Tent is a keeper and a must have for the serious campers out there. The weight is also a factor for me, and this one is not heavy. Great review of a great product, I understand why it is rated so high by shoppers.

    • Hi Dave, thank you for your comments, I love something that is easily erected and set up, and the last thing I want to do is spend too much time on setup when arriving at camp so this tent really excels at time-saving. Your right it is spacious and comfortable with plenty of ventilation when needed.

Alps Mountaineering has put together a winner for a 4-person tent in this design, it is highly rated for many reasons and anyone looking for a good quality dome tent with not be disappointed with this one. I am glad you liked my article.

      Thanks Shane.
