Best Outdoor Solar Shower

1. Advanced Elements 5 Summer Shower

  • Capacity
  • Durable
  • Easy to carry and use
  • Well designed
  • Heats water quickly in full sun

  • The hose tends to crimp up if not rolled when stored

A large capacity of 5 gallons it only weighs around 1 pound and 4 ounces so carrying it into camp isn’t a weight problem. It won’t feel like a burden in your backpack or carryall.

This is a very capable and well-designed shower bag and ticks a lot of boxes for me, It is highly resistant to scratching and tearing courtesy of the material it is made from.

It is quite durable, this bag is one of the stronger ones I have used. It features a 4 layer construction with insulator and reflector panels built-in. There are side pockets that offer you the convenience of holding soap, washcloth or shampoo.

The operating mechanism of the shower of my choice so far is easy and fast. Has a strong handle strap with a quick clip locking device so you can easily strap it over a high branch or holding point and clip the handle securely closed

I was really impressed by this one and that’s why it’s our number one pick. I have done a full review on this shower, check it out here.

2. Coghlan’s 5-Gallon Solar Camp Shower

  • Good capacity
  • Heats water efficiently
  • Easy to use
  • Cheap

  • It has a clamp mechanism for shutting off the water which is a poor quality device.
  • The handle is a lighter material than some, that often rips because of the weight

With a capacity of 5 gallons, this shower also gives you more water than you need to bathe. Using it is very easy as you only need to fill it with water, hung out in the sun, and let gravity take care of the rest.

It is light as it has a weight of around 6 oz. It is fold-able which makes transporting it easy. It is very compact so can be stored easily in a backpack.

A durable PVC material has been used to make this shower which makes it resistant to medium conditions like scratching, cuts, and tears.

I found this one was a medium-density bag of reasonable quality the handle has a tendency to rip from the weight of the water.

3. Stearns Sun Shower Portable Shower

  • Good for 2 people
  • Well made
  • Sturdy and strong

  • Nozzle can Leak
  • Will lose heat quickly in the shade

No camping trip is complete without a bit of a plan for how showers will be accessed. If the camping site is far from such amenities, or if no amenities exist at the site, then there is a need for a portable shower.

And that is where the Stearns shower bag comes in. Its ability to hold four gallons of water makes it suitable for two showers, so 2 people should be able to have the most satisfying shower per fill.

I’m always reluctant to have a cold shower on a cool day, so when you’re looking for a warm shower when camping next, and you don’t want a cold shower, remember the Stearns sun shower.

Fill the four-gallon reservoir with water and leave it outside and give it time in the sun to heat, this bag performed well so keep one in your things to take camping box.

One of the features of the Stearns is that it has a built-in thermometer that lets you monitor the temperatures of the water even as you warm it. Around 4 hours to heat, this is a good shower. I have done a full review on this shower, check it out here

4. Coleman 5 gallon solar shower

  • Has a nice long hose
  • Heats water efficiently

  • Hose tends to kink very easily

The Coleman solar shower bag has a reservoir that can hold up to five gallons of water. This amount is enough to support multiple showers besides giving you a pleasant showering experience away from home.

It is claimed that when days go cold, you can still take a warm shower thanks to the heat-locking material that makes up this Coleman shower.

However once again we do need good sunshine to make hot water, so you may be a little disappointed by the lower temperature on a cooler day. This shower produces a nice flow of water unless the hose kinks which it does easily.

Easy to carry around thanks to its handle, however, what I have found with a lot of these cheaper black bag type of showers is that they all have a weak point, which is the handle that often tears easily under load.

It also comes with an on/off valve on the showerhead. Another cheap bag and while it will produce hot water there is better out there.

5. Sea to Summit pocket shower

  • Highly portable
  • Compact and lightweight
  • Great for backpacking into camp
  • Easy to use

  • The cord may be thin and somehow challenging to hold

Simplicity is the trademark of the camping shower. It’s easy to operate and carry which makes it a great option for maintaining cleanliness in the wilderness.

To use the shower, just fill it with up with 2.6 gallons of water, open the nozzle to your desired flow rate, and take your bath.

It is a dry sack with a showerhead and is advertised as a pocket shower. It is a dark material bag which will warm the water slightly in the sun as all dark material bags would, but this one is more a cool shower bag.

Portability isn’t an issue with this shower as it can be folded down into a carrying case measuring just 6 x 3 inches. It weighs approximately 4.25 oz meaning it won’t slow you down when walking into your campsite it can also carry clothes and other gear inside.

6. Risepro Solar Shower Bag

  • I like the flow regulator hose nozzle, but that does not cover its faults

  • Hose detaches from the bag
  • Many leaks
  • Not well made

It has a capacity of five gallons which means you not only get longer and relaxing showers away from home but also multiple ones. The water pressure is enough for thorough body cleaning.

The valve allows for LOW and HIGH regulation of water flow. Also, coming with it is a long and flexible hose that ensures you reach every part of your body during a shower.

This Risepro seems to have quite a few flaws, a lot of people have commented on a poor quality bag that leaks badly in many places Also, the hose detaches from the bag regularly.

It will heat water to 113F in around 3-4 hours of direct sunlight, Unfortunately from our own research and looking at all the aspects of this shower bag I would not recommend it. Do your research before any purchase of any item.

7. Risepro Solar Shower Bag 10

  • Very large capacity for the whole family or group

  • Too heavy and cumbersome for regular camping

The striking feature that stood out is the sheer size of this thing, can you imagine trying to put it up above your head. It would take a serious pulley and rope system to lift and then you would need more muscle to assist you.

I don’t really see this size bag becoming a must-have item on the list of camping equipment in the near term. It can hold up to 10 gallons of water enough to offer you multiple long showers anywhere.

A long and flexible hose ensures you get maximum benefits from it. It also features a design that absorbs heat smartly. It certainly does what it’s supposed to do, the PVC material making the bag, absorbs solar energy which in turn heats up the water inside the bag.

All the features seem to work well. And the on/off valve attached to the showerhead helps you to control the flow of water easily. Sure you have plenty of hot water after a lengthy period, but I don’t believe it would be suitable for a typical campsite with a small family of a couple of adults and children.

8. Ruipoo Solar Camp shower

  • Good water flow through an easy to use on/off shower nozzle
  • Looks good

  • Water will cool quickly out of the sun
  • The spout was a little short

With direct sunlight, it doesn’t take long to heat the water inside the bag to a hot temperature The shower bag’s convenience is the ease of use and providing warm shower water.

The water flow is nice and consistent, fed by gravity so you can look forward to enjoying a warm shower from this one. The materials are sturdy, and therefore durability is not lost on this bag it should provide continued satisfactory service.

When it comes to portability, this shower bag is lightweight, easily folds which simplifies carrying and storing significantly. This feature makes it great for trips to the mountains and deep wild camping.

This shower delivers a much better shower experience than a lot on our list it will allow the sun to heat your water quickly and efficiently and is a solid looking bag.

An easy to operate shower head which features an on/off valve. The on /off switch is easy to use and gives you the option of variable water flow.

9. Green Elephant 2-in-1 Solar Shower

  • The added convenience of dry bay and shower
  • Also a handy storage bag

  • Roll-top can and does leak at times

This great looking 2 in 1 solar shower/drybag would be a worthwhile addition to your camping gear. It folds nicely and can be easily stored, very durable material should last the distance and give good service around the camp.

If the hammock is calling wash off the days dirt with the Green Elephant.  Also, a very handy bit of gear in have stored at home in case of an emergency situation, power outage, drought, etc.

As a shower it does a good job of heating water if left in the sun for 4-5 hours has a generous 5-gallon capacity which will provide multiple showers, wash the sand from the feet or help with hot water to clean the dishes after dinner

A reliable solar shower bag is very useful in a number of ways. The bag material looks to be a good quality PVC that has a roll top that keeps it dry and closed tight.

Wide solid base with a strong flexible handle that won’t rip easily, lift it hot and full high above your head for a comforting and refreshing shower when camping near the beach on out in the woods.

10. KingCamp Solar Shower

  • Good heat holding capacity
  • The plastic handle is far from ideal however it is one of the stronger ones

  • Another weak point on the handle
  • Leaks at the nozzle

King camp solar shower is another bag that works reasonably well, does what it’s designed to do, heats water when left in the sun.

However, you may want to use it before the sun sets as the heat holding capabilities of the bag was minimal and the water got cold very quickly.  It does have the capacity and will certainly provide a couple with a good hot afternoon bath/shower.

The water flow is nice and consistent coming through the PVC tubing so if you look forward to enjoying a warm shower after a day’s excitement this may be one that may suit you.

Materials are sturdy, and therefore durable quality is not lost on this bag, plus the fact it is built quite well and give you many trips away while also giving good service. They should all be leak-proof however, this king camp shower leaks regularly from the shower nozzle.

11. Zoeson 10 Gallon Outdoor Camping

  • Great capacity for the whole family

  • Very heavy and cumbersome
  • Cheap and probably should be left on the shelf

Heat the shower water through the day while you are busy catching lunch in the stream this 10-gallon solar bag stores enough water for two the whole family in one fill.

Made from non-toxic PVC material it is environmentally friendly with a good heating time it will be ready to go after 4-5 hours

The handle looks capable of holding the weight of the water when the bag is full, but this is a large bag, make sure to tie it securely.  Also, a very handy bit of gear in have stored at home in case of an emergency situation, or power outage.

As a shower it does a good job of heating water if left in the sun for 4-5 hours has a very generous 10-gallon capacity.

If you are always conscious of the temperature of your shower water, then the temperature indicator attached to the bag comes in handy. If such a large bag is necessary then do your research.

12. Facelink Solar Camp Shower

  • Very Cheap Price may suit some

  • Leaks badly
  • Not worth the effort

This is a 5-gallon bag and this amount is enough to support multiple showers for a couple of people in the camp.

This is another cheap bag and once again I always say these bags are good but maybe only for a couple of uses before they start to fail. Eg: handles frequent tear bearing the weight of 5 galls and many start to leak early.

The solar camp shower bag does work and will give you a pleasant shower but don’t be surprised if problems arise soon after using it.

I must say this particular bag comes with a hard plastic rod to reinforce the handle so this may be a good helpful solution to the weak handle problem.

Besides giving you a nice warm showering at the end of the day, this bag is super economical so maybe a good one to have in your gear as a backup, just don’t expect too much.

13. Advanced Elements 2.5 Gallon Shower

  • Straps to hold your soap and shampoo
  • Good Brand
  • Good warranty

  • Small capacity if more than 1 person

When you’re out in the woods you need reliability, and as a single camper, this would be the ideal solar shower bag. It has an extra-large filling opening which always makes things a little easier.

It is a compact and well-made shower bag, durable and should go the distance over a number of camping seasons. A 4-layer construction includes a reflector panel and insulator panel a solar panel and a water reservoir.

It has an on-off shower head for easy use and after use, it rolls up simply to make storing and carrying it very easy. A velcro strap to hold your soap and shampoo when you need your hands to lather your body.

This shower has a high 4.5-star rating on Amazon so has been proven by quite a lot of people, plus the manufacturer warrants the product to be free from defects in material or workmanship for a period of 1 year from date of purchase

Be sure to check out the warranty for any product. Before you climb into your tent for the night this solar shower will provide you a bath for two.

14. Advanced Elements PVC Free Solar Shower

  • PVC free works for a lot of people

  • Not worth the money
  • Better out there

The bag is made of environmentally friendly materials which are safe for your health. The components of this solar shower are made from polyethylene laminate that is bonded to the black fabric and a clear panel of the same PU on the opposite side.

The other components are silicon tubing and nylon hardware. The manufacturer claims the bag is leak proof but there are many reviews that claim different, so be sure to first determine whether this is really a suitable bag for your shower needs on your next outdoor excursion.

While this bag has a few good reviews it would seem to be a poor cousin of the 5-gallon solar summer shower it comes with an on/off valve connected to the showerhead.

This seems to be a problem area for this bag and many cases of leaking around the seal where the hose connects to the bag. Definitely needs some improvements to catch up with other showers, plus the price is too steep.

15. Advanced Elements 3 Solar Shower

  • Good strap with a clasp locking device
  • One of the better-built bags on our list

  • Little expensive but worth it

Besides being strong, the handle is reliable and comes in handy when you want to hang it. It also comes with an on/off valve connected to the showerhead valve to help you control the flow of water.

With direct sunlight, it only takes three hours to heat the water to a temperature of 100F around 40C. The shower bag’s convenience is enhanced by an easy to operate smart shower head which features an on/off valve.

If you’re like me when I camp I enjoy a warm shower, so if you look forward to enjoying a warm shower from one whose material is sturdy, and therefore durability is not compromised

Good thick vinyl and a good quality build make this solar shower a very worthy addition to your camping equipment it would seem to me that this bag is going to be in our top 3

16. Seattle Sports PVC Solar Shower

  • Good size for two people

  • I don’t like the way you have to take the handle off to refill it
  • I think the handle is a weak spot

I have looked closely at this one and I consider the handle to be a weak spot and not up to the challenge of confidently holding the bag upright while full of water.

Use the free power of the sun to provide you with a refreshing afternoon shower, while this bag did heat water quite well on a hot day it got cold very quickly once taken out of the sun so would be wise to have a shower immediately you remove it from its heating position.

A portable unit that will provide warm water for an afternoon shower, after your adventure during the day. Also comes in handy when you need a bit of hot water cleaning up around the campsite.

The handle of this solar shower bag makes it easy to carry around. As for the operation, the on/off valve connected to the showerhead is easy to operate even with a cake of soap in your hands.

This is a rugged shower bag that will heat your water efficiently and within a few hours with good sunshine.

17. Seattle Sports PVC Free Solar Shower

  • Plenty of hot water and reasonable build quality

  • Handle filling position, very hard to get to.

Basically, it’s the same shower as above except it has 1 extra gallon of storage. However, that 1 gallon dramatically changes the rate in which the water heats up you have to add at least another 1-2 hours of time.

Once again the manufacturer claims this product is built with eco-friendlier materials so be sure to check out the construction of this bag if this is something that is important to you.

Also good to look past the script and make sure that you are buying a quality product. I have looked closely at the 4 gallons and the 5 gallon looks pretty well identical. I consider the handle to be a weak spot on both bags and not up to the challenge of confidently holding the bag upright while full of water.

This is not a cheap bag, I feel it is priced a little too much, if you could get it at discount it would be a good buy. You will feel good after a shower from the hot water in this bag.

One thing this shower has going for it is that it employs a solar heating mechanism to warm water, and warm water is what you will get.

18. Coleman 5 Gallon PVC Solar Shower

  • Easy to use
  • Affordable
  • Large capacity

  • May leak around the plug
  • A little lighter in construction than some

This is a two Pack for the price listed. This is a shower that comes at an affordable price and with good capacity. It can hold up to 5 gallons of water which is more than enough to give 1 or 2 people a wash while out there in the woods.

It is nothing remarkable, actually pretty lightweight, not what I would call heavy duty. But it does seem to handle its job rather well, one problem it can leak around the plug.

Although it is not as heavy construction as a few of its counterparts in this guide, it comes with a sturdy handle which makes carrying it around easy.

Strong enough to tie it high on a branch above your head. It also has a nice long hose of 22 inches. Overall a reasonable shower for a reasonable price.

You also have added control of this shower when using through an on and off valve adjacent to the showerhead. The shower uses solar power to heat the water.

The solar-heated Coleman shower is a portable unit that will provide warm water for a soothing shower in the afternoon. Also to wash dishes and hands.

Buyers Guide to Choosing the Correct Solar Shower

Take your time to familiarise yourself with these products, there are numerous brands and designs of solar camping showers, and most of them work with varying results.

We have included a number of those different brands and designs in this review to give you an idea of some of the showers that will provide you with warm to hot water in varying degrees.

It’s best if you know a little something about each of them before you begin buying. That way, you can shop with the comfort that you have the knowledge to choose the best quality product.

One that will suit your needs, and maximize the chances of getting the perfect camping shower for you.

Choose a solar camp shower that can hold enough water for you to bathe at least once. Most 5 gallon showers will provide 2 washes depending on how you use the available water.

If you are washing your hair, for example, you will probably only get 1 wash.

5 gallons of water is also quite heavy, so remember you will be lifting the bag up into a tree branch or point above your head.

So choosing a larger bag, while it may provide more water without the need to refill, will weight quite a bit and could be very difficult to lift and maneuver without plenty of muscle power.

If you are camping alone a smaller or pocket-size shower may provide you with all the water necessary to have a refreshing shower.

Some solar showers come with many design features, however, at the end of the day, all we really need this product to do, is to hold and heat enough water to allow us to have a comfortable bath.

Choosing a camping shower that uses solar heating technology allows you to exploit the readily available sunshine on a fine day, it also makes economic sense.

Reducing our need to use fire in an area that may not allow it, or electricity to provide the comfort of hot water is a great c0nvenience.

Strong construction, choose a camping shower that is made of strong materials that can withstand the harsh conditions of the natural environment.

You don’t want to be laying a full bag on the ground only to have it punctured by the slightest prickle. It most certainly will get some rough treatment during its lifetime camping, so you need it to be durable, so it will serve you well on a large number of occasions.

Some of the features, each type of shower for camping has its own set of unique features to look for. Know something about the options that are available, even in the most expensive models.

Then, you can decide which options are best for your needs and which would be extras to you.they all perform a function some good some not so necessary however we are all different so we all require different things

My aim on this site is always to provide unbiased and honest reviews, from so many different manufacturers, it’s important that you find product reviews and user reviews from a trusted, unbiased source.

Unfortunately, there are quite a few low-cost camping shower options out there that get terrible user reviews for low-quality and poor functionality. However, if they are of low quality and don’t perform, they deserve a poor rating.

Camping shower reviews can help you decide between similar showers, especially when you don’t get to see them work for first hand.

Check product reviews and user reviews to see how durable and high-quality each unit is, how easy it is to use, and how simple it is to set up at the campsite.

Reviews are the absolute best way to choose between showers that may have widely different features.

Most reviews have been written by people who have some knowledge of the product and have probably used them, so you can get first-hand accounts from those people and what they think about the solar showers they’ve used personally.

Few super cheap deals ever seem to be as good as they sound, and it’s the same with any product. I find you normally get what you pay for, although I’ll bet you have never always got what you expected, whether good or bad.

My Top Three Choices

1. Advanced Elements 5 Summer Shower

2. Stearns Sun Shower 4 Portable Shower

3. Advanced Elements 3 Solar Shower

A solar camping shower is the no-frills, lightweight, and cheap option that is super low-tech and relies on the sun to heat water within it.

With the help of gravity gives us a gentle water flow that will allow us to bathe in some comfort, furthermore, they can be used for all areas when camping. There is certainly no rocket science involved in the workings of a solar shower.

However, even though we are only spending a few dollars we like to get something that’s at least a little useful and will last more than just one day, so take time to do your research but the top 3 I have picked here will stand a reasonable use under normal circumstances and therefore last at least one good season.

The one thing you will require in most campsites is privacy and there are many shower and shelter combination units designed to provide campers with an area in which they can have privacy, anywhere.

The most well-designed options are those that may be erected with ease, are light enough to carry with you to car camping locations, These shelters are terrific to hoist your solar shower within, probably using a simple post and hook arrangement
