Everyone needs an escape and a getaway now and then from the monotonous call of work or business and whatever duties or responsibilities go with it and camping outdoors may be just what you need.
There is no doubt that everyone craves the assurance that one is in a safe and happy place that allows them to unwind from time to time. Truthfully, there are thousands of activities to do just this, but camping outdoors is a special activity that allows us to relax and refresh.
Now camping is definitely not for everyone, some people find it a real challenge to spend time in a camp but have you ever tried camping near the Beach, lots of us spent time at the beach with our parents on school breaks but as adults, we sometimes forget the fun and laughter we enjoyed.
Why Leave our Comfort Zone
Personally, I can understand where these people are coming from because you have to ask the question: if you were already so comfortable in your house, why do you need to camp in a national park or forest.
And it is not even to a hotel or someplace fancier where literally everything you need has been provided for. It is possible that people who have never tried the activity may view camping as a form of unnecessary homelessness and a waste of time, effort, and money.
But in my opinion, not ever experiencing the feeling of temporarily living outdoors in direct sunlight, under the stars, and enjoying nature’s natural breeze is the real loss.
Camping definitely takes some effort, but it does provide a way for us to literally step outside of our comfort zones and try something more adventurous and daring.
So, what is camping?
A quick google search will provide one with the answer that camping is the “activity of spending a vacation living in a camp, tent, or camper.” It is defined as people spending a night or two, or possibly even more, away from home to be closer to nature.
Since the goal is to be closer to nature, in order to fully immerse oneself with the elements, this activity has been done time and time again by using a tent, a camper, and many other forms of shelter.
Having a good shelter is the first step in making your campsite comfortable enough to encourage those among us that may not be that enthusiastic. A good quality tent is a home away from home so it needs to be the appropriate size and design.
The reason that people, including myself, choose to go camping is that there is no place like the great outdoors. Being able to put up a tent somewhere, cooking one’s own food, and battling with the forces of nature provides an experience like no other.
Overcome any Obstacle
There is a quote that goes “it is the journey and not the destination” and can be related to when campers would hike seemingly endless miles just to get to their campsite.
There is no better feeling than knowing that you made it, and the feeling is only heightened because you knew how long and hard was the goal of getting there.
Additionally, the beauty in it is that instead of feeling as if it is the end of your journey, you instead are fueled with excitement for the next task, and in this case, it is setting up the tent and preparing for a night of outdoor living.
Like anything in life, the act of camping comes with a few precautions. It is vital to understand that such activity demands more from a person physically and even mentally.
Some Tips and Tricks
If you are interested in camping for the first time having a general knowledge of the kinds of challenges you might run into maybe a good idea, so, here are a few first time camping tips.
Lots of people say that camping is not for the faint of heart and for reasons such as a need for physical endurance, a willful mindset, quick wits, and an ability to be resourceful.
Camping is anything but easy, but some common sense always pays off. People who are used to doing things the easy way may turn away from the activity, but much like any practice, it gets better and even easier over time.
It is not every day that one has to rely on good weather conditions and the guide of an old school map, however, the appeal of it all is that despite all these, one gets to find solace in a place they probably never dreamed they would.
Unwind and Leave The Stress Behind
It is a way to exercise and at the same time unwind. Personally, I enjoy camping because it is one of the few abilities wherein, I feel like I am being holistically nurtured.
True, through engaging muscles and climbing through obstacles, camping, and hiking can and will wear a person out physically. These activities will test one’s fitness, but it is worth saying that at the same time, it also offers opportunities to improve one’s well being and happiness.
It goes without saying that having a routine lifestyle composed of working hours on end, can extremely stress a person out so it is not surprising that one would need a form of release.
Camping can be that release, but means that in order to successfully camp, make sure you have the proper equipment.
- The shelter is the absolute first priority when spending time outdoors.
- Bedding needs to be comfortable and warm enough in the environment you are camping in.
- Sleeping off the ground is better than on it so a good quality cot will be a real asset.
- Food and water, always bring more than you think you need.
- Proper clothing is imperative to keeping you safe as well as comfortable.
Sometimes Normal Everyday Activities Can Become Boring
More often than not, people tend to give more attention to little black screens rather than their day to day lives and the people they interact with.
One of the major benefits of camping, however, is that because of the lack of access to technology there is no other option for people but to drop all these common distractions.
It is quite ironic how people pay thousands of dollars for hotels and resorts and that they do not realize that all they needed to do to gain peace of mind, was to go back to the basics.
Camping, although viewed as unnecessary and tiresome for many, is still what I would view as one of the best ways to unwind.
Cooking outdoors is another element that may be another challenge for some, but the simple fact is that with the right equipment in your arsenal and some easy recipes there is no reason why you won’t be able to feed your family or friends nourishing meals.
A cooking appliance is a must-have and the number of people in your group will determine your requirements for a stove. Check out my very in-depth article on some of the Best Camping Stoves available, one of which will give you the resource you will need.
Camping is a unique way of testing your hidden abilities while at the same time finding a way to reward yourself by enjoying each step of the journey and successfully making it to the destination.
