Coleman Classic Propane Stove Review

The Coleman Classic Propane Stove review takes a look at a great little stove that gives you the ability to have hot-cooked meals and hot water for tea or coffee anytime your away from mains power or when outdoor camping.

You can cook your meals easily with convenience at any time of the day or night with this affordable portable small stove. Coleman, great cooking equipment for camping, hiking, tailgating, and other family outdoor activities.

The Features.

Specs

Measuring 3.6 inches x 21 inches x 13 inches and weighing just under 10 pounds, the classic is quite lightweight. This two-burner propane stove is a great travel buddy, comes in a slim metal frame which is quite nice and is compact and portable.

The Coleman Classic Stove is a basic stove that will produce 20,000 BTU of heating power which will cook the thickest of steak when turned up, or gently heat milk for the breakfast when adjusted down.

Durable.

Its chrome-plated and detachable grill is good and strong, to keep the grill plate clean, wipe over after each use to assist in preventing decay or rust spots which may shorten the life of the grill.

Use aluminum drip trays under the grill to catch any excess fat so as to make the cleanup much easier.

The stove has a good looking aluminum alloy cook-top that is rust-proof and durable. The unit overall is of reasonable build quality and should give you many years of service.

Cooking Area.

The Coleman Classic stove has 2 independently adjustable burners that can cook or heat foods or drinks simultaneously so is able to give you more flexibility in your choice of foods.

In addition, this portable stove also provides ample space to put a 12-inch pan on one burner and a 10-inch pan on the other burner at the same time. Alternatively, you can place a griddle over the grill to give you a nice large surface for a barbecue

Cooking Power.

The Coleman have both PerfectFlow and PerfectHeat technologies. With the PerfectFlow technology, you can be assured of this great little stove’s consistent performance even in moderate outdoor conditions.

The PerfectFlow technology, on the other hand, provides efficient cooking with lesser fuel consumption. This stove also provides a total of 20,000 BTUs (British Thermal Units) of cooking power.

The two burners can also be independently adjustable which allows the right amount of heat for cooking or heating foods or drinks.

This is a simple little benchtop stove, you can easily lay it out on your folding table for camping. Plus you can be assured that you will have hot meals and steaming hot drinks when you’re out in the great outdoors.

Wind Resistance.

Cooking your food outdoors can be a little difficult, especially if the day is windy. With the Coleman Classic,  the adjustable windbreaks are attached to the sides that provide a reasonable amount of protection for the flame.

These wind block panels also serve a dual purpose, they help shield the flame while you are cooking, and you are able to adjust them depending on the pans sizes.

This Coleman portable cooking stove is a reasonable quality product you should have in your camping equipment for weekend camping trips or picnics for a couple of people.

Efficient Fuel Consumption.

Like any other stoves whether for kitchen or outdoor use, efficient fuel consumption is one of the most important factors you should consider when choosing your stove.

The Coleman Classic Propane Stove using a 16.4 oz canister will give you several hours of cooking.

As mentioned earlier, this outdoor stove has a PerfectFlow technology feature that provides optimum cooking power with less fuel consumption.

With this feature maintaining correct fuel usage none of the fuel is wasted.

Price.

For a simple no-frills, 2 burner stove for well under $100 the Coleman Classic Propane Stove is one of the most affordable outdoor stoves around. Unlike some of its other competitors, this two-burner stove is a great buy.

Warranty.

In addition, this two-burner propane stove from Coleman also carries a warranty of three years. This will give you added peace of mind and generally ensures a reasonable quality of service.

With its affordable price and guaranteed warranty, you won’t go wrong with a Coleman classic propane stove. Like I say in all my reviews check and confirm any warranty with the seller prior to purchase to know what you’re covered for.

Maintenance.

Cleaning an outdoor stove can be tedious due to rust and food stains. With this Coleman Stove, you won’t have to worry about that.

The Stove is made of durable lightweight steel and folds up into a briefcase-size which can be easily wiped over with warm soapy water.

The tray is a steel alloy that makes the stove rust-resistant and the chrome-plated grate that can be easily removed making cleaning a breeze.

Feedback.

Given the brand’s reputation especially in terms of product quality, a lot of customers express overall satisfaction with the Coleman Classic Stove.

Currently, the Coleman propane stove is rated 4.4 out of 5 stars on Amazon, and a number one bestseller in gas grills. Many common customer comments rave positively about the product’s performance, portability, and cost-efficiency.coleman 2 burner stove

What Are The Benefits You Can Expect From This Product?

At around 10 lb in weight this stove is easy to carry to the campsite from the car, it can be discreetly stored in a corner of the truck tray.

It folds down neatly into a briefcase-size item which is very convenient when you don’t have a great deal of space.

This means you won’t hurt yourself from carrying a bulky and heavy stove on your next camping trip, and you won’t use up good space unnecessarily.

Most of the surfaces are very easy to get to, so cleaning this stove is a very simple process of using a bucket of soapy water and wiping all over.

If you use an aluminum drip tray to catch any excess fat then this is another way to help you keep your stove cleaner for longer.

Just use warm soapy water and a soft cloth to easily maintain your stove in good condition.

The price point on this stove makes it very affordable, at around $60 you have a piece of equipment that will happily produce the heat you need to cook up for a small number of people.

Any cheaper similar product may prove to be of poor quality indeed. This is a good cheap little stove that should last several years, so I think, that this is a reasonable price to pay for a two-burner stove of 20,000 BTU cooking power.

This Coleman stove is a very basic model and to use it is very simple. Just set it up on a table or benchtop, open the windbreaks attach the full propane bottle, and to fire it up you will need matches or a lighter.

Turn one of the independent knobs anti-clockwise to start the flow of gas and ignite with a spark or flame. Adjusting the flame by turning the knobs a little will produce the perfect flame for what you want.

Coleman is a popular manufacturer of outdoor recreation equipment that has been in existence for more than a century now.

There would not be too many people who have not used a Coleman product or would most certainly have at least heard of the name.

Pros.

  1. Light-weight
  2. Economical
  3. Versatile
  4. Reasonably Durable
  5. Very Compact
  6. Fragile Locking Latch

Cons.

  1. No Ignition Switch
  2. Recess for the handle is not the most comfortable

Conclusion

While there are mostly positive reviews, the product also had its fair share of negative comments.  And we found our own positives and negatives.

For one, we noticed that the flame adjustment knob is quite sensitive – it sometimes flames up rather large even in the slightest amount of adjustment.

With that said, we are also of the opinion that this stove for what it is, and the price you will pay, is worthy of being a part of your camping equipment if you require a simple, reliable small stove for camping.

This is a great small stove with plenty of power and we highly recommend this product as a starter stove or a small family stove while on a holiday or camping near the beach with your family and friends.

For another comparison to assist you with your purchase also check out another great two-burner stove in the review I did on the Camp Chef Everest two burner stove this will help you decide.

All in all, the product has provided satisfaction for its thousands of users with its affordable price, nice simple features, and a reputable name.

The Coleman Classic Propane Stove can cook food efficiently and boil water quickly, and we know it will give you much satisfaction, and make your outdoor experience a more pleasant one.

  1. Wow! I’m Searching exactly this Stove!

The price was awesome lower and the quality looks great!

I have some questions about that before I buy one for my self…

You said that the energy consumption was low, but it depends on the brand of the propane right?

    • Hi Fernando

Yes you picked a very good little stove for your outdoor activities, i’m sure it will serve you well. Propane is Liquefied Petroleum Gas, the brand of propane should not have any effect on consumption. and as for cleaning i just wash mine over with warm soapy water and wipe clean. Hope this helps Fernando, let me know how it goes for you.

      Thanks Shane

  2. We’re hunting for a propane stove to add to our camping gear (our current model that’s attached to our pop up trailer is just a frustrating mess of weird angles and burner sizes). I’ve been eyeing the Coleman Classic and wondering how it compares to other models that Coleman has come out with more recently (I believe the Classic is the “tried and true”?).
Do you find 20,000 BTUs to be enough? My husband is thinking perhaps we should go with a model that has more power so we can get our water boiling faster, that sort of thing.
Any thoughts on this model compared to other, pricier ones? We like Coleman. Thanks!

I agree, the classic is tried and true, and for the price it is a bit hard to beat. However, another nice stove by Coleman and this one has more power, is the Coleman Triton, check it out here. The Triton puts out an extra 2,000 btu of power, is lightweight and has an auto ignition which is always nice. It is around $25 more than the classic but has them extra features. If your wanting boiling water real quick for tea or coffee, check out the Jetboil system here. This is a wonderful small piece of camping equipment, i have owned one for several years and it works perfectly.

Please let me know what product you end up purchasing.

      Best of luck Shane
