Coleman Pack Away Cot Review – Strong Long And Comfortable

Despite the wide range of cots on the market, not all are built tough enough to take on the rigors of the outdoors and that’s where the Coleman Pack Away Cot comes in.

If your putting plans in place for your next getaway, there’s one thing you should not forget a good camping cot. Forget it, and you are in for a long night in camp.

So why not get a camping cot and head out? Let’s dive right in and find out what it has to offer and whether or not it should be on your list of must-haves before you set out.

It’s sturdy, comfortable, solid, and most important measures in at 6ft 8in long. If you are serious about finding a cot that is sure to offer you ultimate comfort and convenience, then this might be your best bet.

The Key Features

Durable construction

The construction is definitely the first thing you want to look for in a camping cot. This one gives you more than a bargain when it comes to durability, thanks to its durable rust-resistant steel frame, and also the impressive cover that stretches nicely across the body of the frame made of polyester.

These two well-made products work together well to provide a camping cot that should endure some rough treatment and give you many years of comfortable sleep in the great outdoors while also offering a considerable amount of serviceability.

Removable side table

For the much-needed convenience, this cot has a removable side table that you can use to keep a few essential items handy. You’ll love the fact that you can decide whether to use it.

But the most impressive thing about it is the cupholder. Keep your drink, snacks, phone, glasses, or other times off the floor and within reach.

Folding legs

This cot’s legs are said to be safe for your tent floor. With plastic ends on the legs, the chances of this cot accidentally ripping your tent floor or scratching your floor at home are very low.

Moving it around gets easier and safer, without risking tearing your tent open. I would put some carpet or rubber squares underneath.

Adjustable for comfort

You can get more than just comfort out of this cot. With an adjustable function, you have the option to use it as you like.

As well as sleeping on the cot which is what its main design is it also allows you to sit in it as well as reclining for an afternoon nap.

When sleeping you may like a sleeping pad such as the very good qualityLightspeed outdoors Self-Inflating Camp Pad

This gives you the choice on how to use this cot, so it boils down to your preference, this is a good way to be able to use the cot in several different scenarios while camping and not be restricted to just using it as a cot.

This also reduces the number of items you need to bring along

Good size

The Coleman pack-away tent is also great when it comes to the size. Measuring 80 inches by 44 inches by 17 inches, it has ample surface for a single person or a couple.

Even the taller person at about 6 feet 6 inches can still sleep comfortably in this cot, even if you move a lot when sleeping. And when folded, it packs small at 40 inches by 8inches by 6 inches and weighs in at around 23 pounds, which makes carrying it a breeze too.

Sleep off the ground

Unlike most beds out there, with a cot, you can be sure you are not going to put up with rocks and uneven surface. Even better, with space underneath, you can store some of your gear there and save on space inside your tent.

One point here is to make sure the cot is open fully before getting in as it’s your weight that keeps it open it does not have a locking mechanism. But the real feature here gives us the opportunity to be up off the ground and that gives us some great benefits.

What Are The Benefits You Can Expect From This Product?

This cot comes fully assembled, which means you don’t need to do a lot on your part other than unfolding it.

With such convenience, you not only save on time, but you also have an easy time with the setup of your bed, simply lay on the cot to keep it open, this is a great design and a great benefit.

Portability is the other thing this bed stands out with. Since it comes with a zippered carrying case, you can easily take it with you everywhere you need it.

Besides, as it is only approx 40 x 8 x 6 inches when folded, it can fit in your car’s trunk with ease too. This means you can go anywhere and have it with you at the end of the day.

In terms of comfort, this cot never disappoints too. Built to cater for all types of sleepers, you can enjoy any position you like.

Most importantly, unlike most cots that have bars cutting across your stomach, this one is comfy all the way. So on your next outdoor adventure be sure to take this very comfortable sleeping surface with you.

Adding comfort is something you will most surely do, probably by laying a sleeping pad on the cot and then a blanket or maybe even a good quality sleeping bag like the Coleman North Rim read about it here.

Easy setup is yet another notable thing about the Coleman pack-away that is sure to blow you away. All you need to do is just unfold it and you are all set.

Once done using it, the takedown is just as easy you can simply fold it up, tuck it in its carrying case, and off you go.

The removable side table is definitely something you will quickly get to love. Use it to keep your magazine, books, drinks or a few snacks handy.

What’s more, you can use this table on either side of the tent depending on where you want it. Convenience doesn’t get any better, although speaking of small tables check out our article folding tables for camping.

Firstly, The Advantages of being off the ground while camping outdoors at night are many but just a couple of the most important is that cold hard ground is not conducive to a comfortable sleep.

Next being on the ground will take a large proportion of your body heat, therefore, you will be much colder on the ground.

Secondly, I don’t like sharing my bed with snakes or other crawling insects and biting bugs so being up even just a few inches is a much better scenario.

Here’s A Tip or Two

  • While it is claimed the feet will not damage your tent floor I would put rubber squares or carpet squares under the feet to help safeguard your tent floor from accidental damage by the cot’s legs.
  • One thing you have to keep in mind, however, is that the legs don’t lock in place. So be careful when moving it around, hold it to prevent it from collapsing.
  • Be aware that this is a reasonably long bed and if you are putting it inside your tent make sure it will fit in before leaving home.

Pros.

  • It is very stable so the chances of toppling over are close to none.
  • The rust-resistant steel frame is very durable.
  • Durable tough polyester-made cover.
  • Robust enough to support up to 300 lbs.
  • Large sleeping area.
  • No metal bars across your back or shoulders.

Cons.

  • It was hard to find too many genuine faults
  • At 20 pounds, it’s not the lightest

 .

My Overall Opinion

If you are scouting for a camping cot that you can use when solo camping or as a couple, then this one is for you. It won’t fit in your backpack but this is not a backpacking cot. The cot packs in just about everything you need from the convenience to the comfort and ease of use, it is something every seasoned outdoors person would enjoy.

There are many good reviews from customers who have purchased this product and from our experience, I would join them and give this cot a very positive review.  We highly recommend this cot for any camping and outdoor adventurer so why not go ahead and take your camping experience to a completely new level? 3. Hello Shane,

I have just finished reading your review on “Camping Cot” and I must confess I really find it useful. I could remember during my last vacation from work, I went camping with my spouse but the cot we took along was not durable enough and nearly ruined our day.

I will try this out because I will be leaving for another vacation soon and would like something durable and reliable while camping. I want to ask, “is there family size”? What is the size of the biggest cot?

once again, thanks so much for sharing this. It’s really helpful.

    Regards

    Olushola.
