We are looking at the Coleman RoadTrip LXE Grill reviews, maybe it can help us add an extra level of enjoyment to our gathering. Cooking outdoors certainly takes some beating for a relaxing, enjoyable and fun-filled time.

Stick some choice beef steaks or ribs on the grill for a cook up, gather around family and friends, what better way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Or if your heading away on your next camping trip with your family one item that becomes necessary to help make these occasions flow smoothly is a good portable gas grill.

Here we have chosen this particular grill we found, very highly regarded by a huge number of people. It seems to have all the makings of a good, reliable small grill.

It looks perfect for small family camping, suitable for your next tailgate event, maybe a cook up and picnic with friends.

The Key Features.

Set up

The whole unit folds down flat, stores neatly in its own carry case, and can be carried in the trunk of your car very easily. Simply remove the stove from its case, lift and lock in place by extending the legs into position.

Pull out the dual sliding tables on each side, for added workspace, hook up your propane gas supply and it is ready to go. It doesn’t get any easier than that.

Ignition and Fuel

Instastart push-button ignition system fires up the grill without needing matches or another lighter. No problems if next time you forget the fire starter.

The lxe Grill is set up to operate on propane gas and a 1 pound disposable cylinder is easily purchased and connected to the stove.

However you can also feed it from a 20 lb bottle / refillable cylinder in an RV or trailer, you’ll just need an extra-long Coleman 5ft high-pressure propane hose and adapter.

Maneuverability

Easy to carry with is own bag, it is light enough to be carried by one person. It is cleverly and conveniently designed with wheels for simple maneuvering, so it can be wheeled across the field in comfort and with ease.

It can then also be wheeled to a different location a little way once it is set up.

Grilling Surface

The large area of grilling area gives plenty of space to cook up for the whole team, it has a total of 285 sq in of durable cast-iron grilling surface.

Cast iron is a terrific metal for cooking your favorite beef steak or marinated ribs. There are swap top stove grates and griddles available for purchase if they are more suitable.

Burners and Grates

Two independently controlled and adjustable burners give you the convenience of cooing two different styles of food as the interchangeable cooktops let you convert one side of the grill to a griddle plate or a stove grate.

Other Coleman road trip grill accessories are also available. These are great features A full 16.4oz propane cylinder will last approximately 1 hour with both burners on high

Gas Output and Flame

The Coleman lxe grill has a whopping 20,000BTUs this provides you ample heat to cook up for the whole team with ease. It has an adjustable flame controls to make sure the cooking process happens at the correct temperature to cook your food as a fine chef would.

Maintenance and Storage

Wipe excess grease from the grill after use and detach the grease trap tray and clean. Remove the propane gas cylinder, and wash stove and tray with warm soapy water and let dry completely.

Fold it up and place inside its storage bag and store inside out of the weather. One small tip, place some aluminum foil into the grease tray before use, then just dispose of the foil.

What Are The Benefits You Can Expect From This Product?

The Coleman road trip grill has many benefits that sometimes only come with buying a smaller unit, it is very compact and lightweight which makes it very desirable for those in the traveling public.

RV owners and campers who always maintain a careful eye on available space and weight should look closely at this unit.

Although not perfect by any means this grill has functions and features that give the user an easy to use and very reliable, and simple piece of essential equipment when its time to cook.

The design is very smart, and it is a good-looking grill that performs well under most common circumstances

It is large enough to cook food for a family or a small group of people, while small and compact enough to be very portable, and well suited to camping and outdoor use.

Easy to use and takes up very little space, always a bonus when you’re on the road.

Coleman is a very big company that has been around for a long time, they have an enormous following with a huge array of items.

Mostly the products are of very good quality and with normal use and good maintenance will provide a good service for a long time.

Coleman strives to maintain a high and very good reputation, mostly the company is easy to deal with and most times problems are solved in a timely and satisfactory manner.

They offer a warranty on most products and this should be checked out thoroughly by you the purchaser before buying any item.

My Overall Opinion

Sharing food cooked on a grill with family and friends is always an enjoyable pass time, I have a love of food and cooking and to me cooking outdoors provides a chance to create some truly delicious meals.

Simple but hearty steaks or a more complex dish, whatever you desire, cooking outdoors can be a real pleasure and a memorable experience.

Like a lot of happy people who own a Coleman RoadTrip XLE Grill, we too give this stove a tick of approval. I personally highly recommend this grill as a good economical appliance.

It looks like a good build plus it comes with a limited 3-year warranty, however, be sure to check this out yourself before purchase. If treated right this stove should give many years of good service.

  1. What a cool grill! I love the compact size and easy set up. The two features that caught my eye are the instastart ignition and the 20,000BTU of heat. This means you can get to grilling for friends and family quickly and efficiently. I need to show my hubbie your post. He is the resident chef.

  2. It is a really cool Grill, also that it can fold down flat so we can get it and go to a picnic place without a problem. However I wonder whether we can carry it easily or not. Since I think that we need to walk at least 20 minutes. What do you think?

  3. Thank you for this great review, this looks like a great grill. I love cooking and eating outdoors it is somehow much more enjoyable than just a normal meal and this looks ideal. I love how it is so small and compact that you can take it with you in the car just a shame that it is winter and we don’t have the weather for it at the moment.

  4. Great review!  We actually have this grill and it’s great.  We’ve had ours for several years now and it’s still going like a champ.  The changeable and reversible grilling surfaces makes it perfect for a variety of cooking needs.

The only “gripe “ we have is that the wheel configuration isn’t as robust as it could be.  Our wheels are now at an angle vs straight up and down as when we first set it up.  It’s not that the fasteners are loose or anything but more like something has bent or given way.  They still work but I fear they will fail eventually.

Still, we think it’s a great grill and recommend it to anyone looking for a versatile portable grill.  Just be aware of the wheel weakness.

    Thank you

    • Hi Scott, love having comments by other owners of equipment of products we review, it gives our readers some genuine insight into the product and helps them determine if it may be right for them. I really appreciate your comment and its a shame about the wheel assembly but good to hear its still going strong. I hope you get plenty more years from it yet, all the best, thanks Shane.

  5. Hi Shane,

Great article! I really enjoyed the reading!

We have a boat and we love to make barbecue on the weekend while on the water. This grill looks perfect for our boat as it can be folded which really help since there are not many places. I was wondering if this would be enough stable. Is it possible to attach this Grill to the boat so it can be more stable.? We have a lot of children on the boat and this could be dangerous.

Thank you for this excellent post!

    • Hi Daniella, the Coleman Roadtrip Grill is a really nice grill, and certainly is good value for money, however, a boat is probably not the place i would use this grill, i think if you don’t have a galley on your boat i would tend to lean towards a bench type grill that would be much more stable on a boat.

Safety is paramount on the water so go for a Weber or similar, Check out our Best Portable Grill for 2018 this would be a better option. Whatever you do or wherever you go stay safe and have fun thanks for the great comment.

  6. Hey there,

I’m a road trip lover, and having a grill is honestly so awesome! I love to cook and i love it even more when I am somewhere on the road and stop for a picnic. So far, I am very impressed by Coleman RoadTrip LXE Grill because it is user-friendly and easy to set up, offers impressive level of stability, has high build quality and great level of durability, cool design and construction. It’s a bit upsetting that the flame is open to dripping fat, but not a deal breaker by any means. Thanks for such detailed and informative review, You’ve done an amazing job! Keep up the great work 😉
